Each week we want you to be able to experience the love of God through great music, encouraging messages and friendly people. We know that your first time at a church, any church, brings up some questions:
What makes this church unique?
First Brethren Church believes that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a timeless and important message that changes everything. The Bible describes God’s interaction with the world and points to his ultimate gift in Jesus. Because the Gospel changes everything, we want to help people connect to the wonderful news of the Gospel and see how it transforms all of us.
What should I wear?
Casual clothes are the norm at First Brethren Church. So, feel free to leave the suit and tie at home!
What happens when I arrive?
You may park in the church’s parking lot or on the street. At the main entrance you will find people ready and eager to meet you and welcome you. They will answer any questions that you might have. If managing stairs is difficult, we have an indoor ramp into the worship center. We will never single you out during the service, but if you feel comfortable you will have an opportunity to respond through our website so we can get to know you better.
Where will I sit?
You may choose to sit at any of the pews in the worship space.
How long will the service last?
The weekend services at First Brethren Church typically last about an hour.
What should I expect during the service?
Our service generally begins with a welcome followed by some announcements. After the announcements we have an instrumental selection played by one or more of our talented musicians while the candles are lit in the front of the worship center. Then, the congregation is invited to worship God through song. We typically sing three to four songs together. We put the words on a screen so it’s easier to follow along.
After a time of prayer, our pastor presents a children’s sermon for the kids in the congregation. This is followed by the message of the day. We’ll use the Bible as our main source material, but also draw on different lessons from current events and the culture around us. We’ll also talk about how Jesus is a fulfillment of the Scripture that we are learning together.
We generally close with a final song followed by a short benediction. Please stick around after the service as we typically serve refreshments. It’s a great opportunity to make some new friends!
Will I have to say/sign/give anything, or be singled out in any way?
At First Brethren Church, you’ll never be put on the spot, never singled-out, and never embarrassed. You won’t be asked to participate in the offering. Our hope is that you’ll let the service be our gift to you and that you’ll know we’re here for you!
What is available for kids?
We have Sunday school classes for kids of every age beginning at 9am. Kids are welcome to interact with other kids and our great teachers.
We welcome children in our worship services. We love kids! They’re never a distraction. We do have a nursery available for our youngest children. Parents are welcome to utilize the room at their convenience. Children staying in the worship service can use one of many activity bags with crayons, coloring sheets and activity pages.
